Or at least herb garden domination. Ya gotta start small around here.

...yeah. This is the only scene I have ever witnessed from this particular film, but I thought it rather apt whilst yanking spearmint up from the herb garden. Said spearmint is intent on taking over the garden...but it's best displayed with pictures. See, it looks all nice and innocent and cute here... ...but lurking beneath the weed barrier and soil is a tangled mass of root, intent on world domination!! Or at least herb garden domination. Ya gotta start small around here. The roots are relatively large, and LONG. My gosh, I've pulled up roots that are over two feet long--and then of course there's the whole 'tangled mass' issue. *shudders* Case in point. *sighs* This stuff is BAD. Fortunately I have learned my lesson about planting invasive species, and have planted comfrey (another fast-spreading-to-the-point-of-invasiveness plant) next to the horse pasture, far, far, FAR away from anything that it could choke out. XD Have I inspired to you shudder? Delight in not having willfully planted invasive plants? Pray that you don't have nightmares tonight? If so, then my desire to disturb has been fulfilled. And with that, I say good night.

Day three...let's see, Tuesday? Yeah, Tuesday. :D We started off with working in Julia's mother's yard--all in all we raked and bagged leaves, planted flowers, put in a bird-bath/flower garden, mulched, and watered. With five of us working it took something around five hours...I don't know about the others, but I rather enjoyed it. And we were fed with the most AMAZING pizza from Dominoe's, so all was well. :D
(Seriously, this pizza was the best I think I'd ever had. The crust had SOMETHING in it that was...it was...gah. It was amazing.) Other knows as April Fool's Day. Since I'm going to be alone most of the day I have no one to prank...oh well. Made some comfrey salve today...and while I didn't take any pictures of the process I DID get a couple of pictures of the finished product. This, my friends, is what you get when you combine comfrey- and plantain-infused olive oil, beeswax, vitamin E, tea tree, and sandlewood oil. This stuff is WONDERFUL. (The tins ARE a little on the small side--maybe an ounce?--but they still look snazzy. XD) Otherwise I deep-cleaned my room this morning: took down and washed curtains, washed sheets, cleaned windows, moved the furniture and vacuumed (believe me, the dust bunny colonies were frightening to behold), and the room is currently airing out. Boy, did it need airing too...it's all stuffy from being closed up all winter. Oh, the yellow flowers...they grow outside the gym, and last night when there was no one in said gym I was sitting outside taking random pictures. Have I mentioned lately that I love the macro setting on my camera? I also weeded the flower beds at the gym yesterday...tell ya what, when a person can't plant or harvest new growth, weeding is strangely enjoyable. I think it has something to do with wanting to work with the hands...I dunno. *facepalm* Oy. The previous pictures I tried to capture self-portrait-wise were my 'stoned' expression, so this is a somewhat welcome change. I hadn't brushed my hair for several hours here, can you tell? XD
All righty, I'm going to leave you poor people alone before I picture-spam you to death...I have to go haul some 'nure (who CARES if I have a blister from yesterday, it needs done!) and absorb some fresh air. Your hostess, The Fox Probably the first one of the season. (Curse you, Ice Age, I will never forget that line. *headdesk*) So, if you couldn't tell already, I made it a point to go outside and take pictures of random tiny things today. It was wonderful. :D (By the way, see those itsy bitsy little blue flowers? Those are the flower to the accursed Creeping Charlie, which is a weed that likes to take over via vining and suffocating its poor flowery brethren. Sort of like a smaller, milder version of kudzu, come to think of it.) (Anyway, if anyone has a use for Creeping Charlie, please pass it on. I'm tired of pulling it up and living with it. Thank you.) Today I tackled the herb garden. Said garden has not been touched since sometime last fall...hence it was quite the mess. From here it doesn't look bad, but up close... ...there's old shriveled-up growth from last year still clinging to the new plants that are starting to show their faces. This happens to be a clump of chives--I love chives. They're very pretty...smell like onions...and the flowers attract huge bumblebees. >.< Oh well. More dead stuff...I think this was spearmint at one point. I still have dried mint leaves for tea left over in my tea cupboard, come to think of it. XD Ugh. Dead growth, gross weeds...this needs to go. *after about half an hour of raking, weeding, etc* Not on this one square, of course...I did the whole thing...but doesn't that look so much better? Now to put down some more dirt/fertilizer and wood chips over the whole so it looks nice again. :D I didn't just take pictures of messy herb gardens, though...there's also tulip leaves poking up through the ground. Doesn't that little spiral piece look something like the top of a rose bloom? ^-^ *loves flowers* So pretty...you can bet that I'll be going absolutely CRAZY when we actually get some real flowers around here. *sigh* So pretty...
