Your hostess,
The Fox
These were all taken looking at the field west of our house. It changes with nearly every sunset, and some of the best pictures I've taken are post-storm.

Javert has had a bit of a skin problem lately. Apparently he's allergic to fleas, which made him break out in some sort of infection that made his skin start peeling, and it was really gross and disgusting. So for the past two weeks I've had to give him an antibiotic twice a day, in the form of a pill. Since I'm not one for forcing a pill down his throat I hide it in a glob of peanut butter, which he happily eats. 'Happily' isn't really a strong enough word...Javert LOVES his twice-daily peanut butter. But his peanut butter doesn't really like him. "Om...nom...nom..." "Gosh, this stuff is kinda sticky." "Why must you mock my inability to eat certain things?" Sorry, Javert. You're just too cute when you've got peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth. "Well...I guess I can handle 'cute'." "Hm, that was good." "Got any more?"
No, Javert. I don't have any more. Your hostess, The Fox I finally finished that skirt I was working on, hurrah! Actually, I finished it last Thursday. But I didn't get around to taking pictures until Friday and Saturday was filled with insanity, hence posting pictures today. It is INSANELY comfortable--I wore it all day Thursday, Friday, and Sunday before finally succumbing to putting it in the wash. It's THAT comfy. Since there's been heat indexes in the upper 90s to 100s it's nice to not be wearing jeans. For the people who may wonder why I don't wear shorts instead: I have very pale legs, due to always wearing jeans, and the contrast from my legs to my arms is so stark as to make me loathe the sight of shorts. (And I just don't like wearing things that show off my not-very-show-off-worthy legs. XD) Argh for fuzziness...I had to use the self-timer, and for some reason this came out all blurry. Meh. Suffice to say that I'm highly pleased with the finished product, and have started another. This time I had some jeans that were way, WAY too long (about six inches) that I didn't really feel like hemming. They fit in every other aspect, particularly around the waist, so they are an ideal candidate for makin' shtuff. XD I've started with the blue and the floral red...the checkered stuff is actually a very large dress that I got for 25 cents at a second-hand store. This probably won't be enough for a whole skirt (I figured that it took almost 200 inches-worth of material for the last layer on the first skirt--that, my friends, is a LOT of sewing, even with a machine) but it's more than enough to get started. Remember the kitten, Smudge? I think she's settling in nicely. Yeah. I think she likes it here. XD We actually may have a home for her--one of the people I clean for has said that they would be interested in taking her as a barn cat. So after she gets bigger and we have her spayed I think that she'll have a home. I'm kind of glad, because she has a habit of climbing on my bed, crawling to my face, and kneading my neck whilst purring loudly while I'm trying to sleep. It's more than a little annoying. This morning I woke up with my blanket wrapped around my neck and lower face, presumably in an attempt to ward her off (I threw her to the foot of my bed several times last night, I do know that much). Hopefully I'll get through this without strangling either myself or the cat. "You wouldn't strangle ME, would you?"
Yes. Yes, I might. Your hostess, The Fox For the past few weeks, Mom has been planning and preparing for a wedding that she'd been hired to cater. Will and I were 'hired' to help (read: pressed into service XD), along with some friends that we knew would do an excellent job.
(The friends were actually 'hired', not 'pressed'. But I digress.) And so, since it's my unofficial job to clutch a camera and look like I know what I'm doing, I took pictures of the food and people surrounding us while we put things together. (Click the 'read more' to see the rest of the post) I always sign my posts 'your hostess the Fox'. But lately I've been a rather poor hostess in the way of posts that have any relevance even to my own life. (Going along with the hostess analogy, it's like inviting people to a party and then feeding them saltines--kind of dry, with no nutritional value XD) So...consider this an effort to make some posts that have something to say, rather than just posting random pictures and hoping for the best. I've got some ideas that have been rattling around in my mind (mostly inspired by a chat I had with a friend of mine the other day--she and I are on totally opposite sides of the spectrum in nearly every way possible, and our debate made me think quite hard on a series of topics.), and it's just a matter of sitting down and writing what I've been thinking about at this point. Your hostess,
The Fox There was a random visitor to our backyard the other day. Have you ever seen anything quite so ugly? He kind looks like cross between a bald chicken and a turkey. ...okay, until he opened his wings. Those were pretty cool. I'm not sure why he was in our yard. To the best of my knowledge there is nothing dead on our property, but he didn't look like he was looking for dead things. He circled around a few times, landed on the fence, and started surveying the tall grass like it was his. XD He looks pretty comfortable up there... Will finally plinked him with the BB gun, (a) to scare him off and (b) so I could try to get another picture of him taking off. (Don't worry, the BB gun is really, REALLY weak--he had to aim about five inches above the buzzard to compensate for the arc/lack of power from the gun.) He finally flew off, I got my picture, and he must have been irritated because he didn't come back. XD Considering that some of the cats have a habit of lying motionless for hours at a time it's probably a good thing that he's gone...but just in case I ought to double-check the feline population. XD
Your hostess, The Fox After spending an inordinate amount of time drooling over skirts on Etsy, I finally buckled down and made one myself.Or rather, MOST of one. I've had my eye on these Etsy skirts for quite some time, and even bought material last week for the purpose of making one. But my sewing machine decided to be evil and wouldn't work for me. *headdesk* But today, instead of going with Will to rehearsal and painting set pieces, I stayed home and trouble-shot my sewing machine. Turns out that the needle was put in wrong (still not sure how that happened), and everything was fine after I put it in right. *shrug* Such a simple solution...after fixing the sewing machine it took me something around 3 hours to get to this point (I also ran out of material XD). This falls to just below my knees, and I'm more of a 'super-long-skirt' gal when in a skirt mood...so I tagged along with Mom to Walmart and got some more material. I hope to finish the thing tomorrow...*crosses fingers* I had no pattern, other than one in my head that was gleaned from reading a bunch of different patterns online...I wanted it to be flow-y, with a definite flare, so there's a slight 'ruffle' at the top of each section. But...considering that it's the first time that I've made clothing without a pattern, I think it's turning out pretty darned well. :D The jean top is actually an old skirt that I've had lying around for AGES. I hated wearing it because it had a slit in the front that came above my knees, but even with the slit I had to take really short steps (i.e. it was very, very constricting). So I think that this flow-y version is a definite improvement. :D Oh yes, I said 'additions', didn't I? Well. While leaving WalMart Mom and I were sitting in the van, Mom started the engine, and then gasped. "There goes a kitten!" "What? Where??" I was out of the van in about a millisecond and scanning the parking lot. By kneeling down and looking under the car next to us I saw this little grey and white kitten mewling pathetically, and in about a minute I had squeezed close enough to grab it. So there we were, standing in the middle of the WalMart parking, me with a kitten in hand and both of us looking at each other with that scrunched look that says 'we don't need a cat...but by golly it's cute...' Cuteness won out...and in another twenty seconds we were driving home, kitten in the car with us. XD She's a pretty little kitten, with relatively uniform markings. And I really wanna call her 'Chauvelin' (from Scarlet Pimpernel), just because she's tiny and terrorizes Javert to no end. XD
Poor Javvie...I have no pictures, but every time she hisses at him he runs across the room whimpering. He is confuzzled muchly. (Especially since she seems to hate his guts, but purrs when we pet her. *shrugs*) I have a feeling that this kitten is going to become a more or less permanent addition to our household... XD She's now curled up in my lap as I type...silly kitty. XD And I still have absolutely no idea what to name her. Something literary, perhaps? Something silly? Something nonsensical? I dunno. What do you, my dear readers, think she 'looks like' name-wise? Mom's been calling her 'Smudge-pot' because of her grey nose. 'Chauvelin' doesn't fit 'cause she's a female...and I have no idea what else to consider. XD So what d'ya'll think? Let me know what you think! I'm open to suggestion! :D Your hostess, The Fox Okay, so this may not look THAT bad... ...but this was the sky above the gym about five minutes before closing time. The stills don't show the freaky rotation and the clouds moving VERY quickly overhead. I was watching the TV at the gym as they showed live footage of a funnel cloud about 20 miles north of where I live, and occasionally popping outside to check out the sky. It was weeeird, man. Tornadoes don't freak me out like they used to (anyone remember Twister? That movie scared me to DEATH when I was a kid)--to be honest, I wouldn't be completely against tagging along with some storm-chasers someday--but this was still giving me cause to twitch and wait impatiently for the last guy to leave the gym. XD (I was wondering how fast it would take me to run inside and squeeze under the desk should a tornado be spotted. XD) I'm sorry. My mind is the sort that thinks out these emergency situations. No desk-squeezing was required, fortunately, and I sped home just as the rain hit. And then, because I'm a photo-hound and can't turn up cloud/rain pictures, I went out in the pouring rain and snapped a few shots of the south.
And then I ran inside and had pizza for supper and the storm passed and everything was well. The end. Your hostess, The Fox Today we went to see the latest installment in a series: Toy Story 3. The first film came out when I was 4 or 5, so I don't remember watching it in theaters. But I do remember seeing it throughout my childhood and being insanely excited to see the second film in 1999, when I was 8. (The second one is rather bittersweet--not just because of the film material, but our pony died on the same night that we went to see it in theaters. So it occupies a rather sensitive place for me.)
Anyway. Since it's not within my nature to just let things lie (especially films and books) I am inclined to pick apart minutely this particular sequel. So those who haven't seen this movie and don't want to have it spoiled, here there be spoilers!! What insanity, you ask?
(Actually, if you ask that you haven't been reading much of this blog. XD) But! The insanity I refer to is the fact that my older brother, Isaac, has been home all week and consequently shaking things up with his mere existence. (Okay, okay, it hasn't been that bad. But I'm entitled to give him some flak about his existence.) Since he came home it's rained at least once every day, my computer has been hijacked several times, he's recorded an album (at least, MOST of an album), played so much music that I've been forced to invoke the captive audience rule, and he's asked much in the way of advice for his blog and life in general. And, of course, I've been more than willing to throw out my wanton advice when asked. I like throwing out wanton advice. It makes me feel needed. XD Anyway...we haven't gotten any pictures of him yet, but that should be remedied before he leaves this afternoon. So be looking for pictures, 'kay? And with that frothy, inconsequential post, I say 'adieu'. Your hostess, The Fox |
