Anyway. Since it's not within my nature to just let things lie (especially films and books) I am inclined to pick apart minutely this particular sequel. So those who haven't seen this movie and don't want to have it spoiled, here there be spoilers!!
Today we went to see the latest installment in a series: Toy Story 3. The first film came out when I was 4 or 5, so I don't remember watching it in theaters. But I do remember seeing it throughout my childhood and being insanely excited to see the second film in 1999, when I was 8. (The second one is rather bittersweet--not just because of the film material, but our pony died on the same night that we went to see it in theaters. So it occupies a rather sensitive place for me.)

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool. To weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To reach out is to risk involvement, To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self. To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return, To live is to risk dying, To hope is to risk despair, To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow, or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom. Only a person who risks is free. The pessimist complains about the wind;
The optimist expects it to change; And the realist adjusts the sails. – William Arthur Ward (1921-1994) |
