...I remember the weirdest things. *shakes head*
I shall ever remain,
Your hostess,
The Fox
This moth landed on the wheelbarrow the other day and tagged along with Will as he picked up weeds to dump on Isaac's property. He was about half the size of my hand, and awfully pretty. I almost wanted to touch his wings to see how soft they were. But I didn't. Some kind of a memory from a Little House on the Prairie book stopped me, where Laura was told not to touch a butterfly because she would rub the dust off his wings and hurt him.

On the last day we took the horses for a ride and walked around town. I hadn't ridden either of them for almost a week...I was beginning to suffer withdrawals. XD (Thanks, 'Shlee, for taking pictures!) Violet: "That's trippy, man..." It looks like we were stopping to regroup here, but in actuality Will was trying to kill a horsefly. Said horseflies have been TERRIBLE this year...both the horses have had bloody marks where they've been bitten. >.< Why do I have such cute friends? XD Thus ends the Illinois side of the Texan invasion. The NEXT week I went down to visit them...and there's a ton of pictures to go through there as well. XD
Your hostess, The Fox We even packed a picnic lunch this time. (It was Will's idea, can you believe that?) This is my "Ooh! Aah! IT'S COLD!!" reaction. Let me tell you, the water coming out of that waterfall/spring/thing is FREEZING. Whee, cliff-jumping! I think Christa did a flip off of there...let me check. Oh, yes, here she is: It looks like she's about to do a rather nasty back-flop, but in actuality she was in the middle of the flip. She managed to hit the water feet-first. Thus ends another successful outing--and we didn't get lost on a golf course this time.
Your hostess, The Fox Due to the insanity of the past two weeks, this is being updated nearly a week and a half after it actually happened. And since I came home from Texas yesterday, I'm still running on adrenaline and something around 6 hours of sleep, so forgive me if I forget some details. In fact, I may not even comment on the pictures from here out--there's not that much to comment upon, really--so maybe I can get the rest of the Texas Invasion series up in a couple of days and down-shift to a relative sense of normality. Ahhh... To put it concisely, we went to the mall and had an absolute blast trying on dresses. Unbeknownst to us when we first entered the mall, everyone was having clearance sales. *headdesk* Hence, I now have two ball-room-type dresses and a summer dress for under $50, and I'm still wondering what the heck I'm going to wear them at. Sigh. They're awful purty dresses, though... I actually wore this dress to Christa's graduation party...it was very staticky, as I found out when I sat next to a balloon. XD (It decided to travel with me for the next ten minutes. Hilarity ensued.) May I say that this little hat was completely and totally adorable? (The subject is awful pretty too. XD) Aaand at the hibachi grill! This was my third time at the restaurant, but the first time I'd sat at the grill. And this was 'Shlee and Christa's first ever visit to a Japanese restaurant. I'm starting to drool just thinking about the place...help... Now this guy was great...the cooks are trained to be entertaining as well as make the meal, so he juggled his knives and spatulas and tossed bits of scrambled egg in our mouths (Christa missed four times. It was hysterical. XD) and juggled a raw egg and generally was highly entertaining. And we must never forget the 'Japanese Dr. Pepper' (soy sauce) or the 'sexy sauce' (some kind of a sweet dip). It's making me drool again. Help... Oh yes, oil and fire, a great combination. XD Help me, Rhonda, I'm starting to revert to Pioneer Woman sayings. But it was gooooood, man. 'Shlee ordered a bento box, but we won't hold that against her. XD *sigh* Yes, I did leave my truck in this abhorrent state of parking for well over an hour. I shall go crawl in a hole and die now.
Tune in next time for another visit to Wildcat Springs with pictures to prove it...until then, I shall always remain, Your hostess, The Fox The day: Thursday. The place: Wildcat Springs. The people: me, 'Shlee, Christa, and Zachary. The reason: Because we could. Okay, okay, so we went to Wildcat Springs because 'Shlee and Christa don't have anything like this down in Texas. (Seriously, they don't. It's all flat plains and sky. Not that that's bad...but it's certainly not Illinois XD.) This was interesting--apparently the cliff had fallen over and slid into the creek. Ahh, yes, the swimming area...this was about 1/8 of a mile of hiking/wading along the creek bed. The water is about 9-10 feet deep, warm, and clear (I mean, until we muddied it up by walking around, of course). By the way: 'Shlee was taking this picture, and the other person in the picture here is Zach. He pops up in a lot of these pictures. XD Ohh, yes. The cliff. Last time Will and I came here he jumped off of this cliff, into the water. So I decided that I was going to jump off the cliff too. About this time I remembered that I'm not fond of heights. Well, I don't mind heights as a rule. I can climb trees, look down from major heights without feeling too dizzy, etc. It's just jumping off into the open space that's a bit of a problem. So after whimpering and looking down for a while, and letting the others jump first, and whimpering a bit more, Christa did a count-down and I jumped. After the initial shock it wasn't THAT bad...there's a moment of suspension, where the stomach feels left behind, right before striking the water. But in all honesty it was a BLAST. So much of a blast, in fact, that I jumped a second time. XD Zach's job, as a lifeguard (that's his part-time job), was to make sure that we didn't kill ourselves on the way down. And do photobombs. Zach is the master of photo bombing. It has become a game while looking over pictures to find which ones Zach randomly appears in and what kind of crazy face he's making. (...we love you, Zach, really we do...) Random log time! At the end of the lake was this covered bridge--actually part of a golf course, as we found out the second day we walked there--and it was so nifty that we posed and took some pictures on it. (Also: nifty dragonfly bug thingy is nifty.) Please ignore my stunning tan line. Thank you. At this point we headed off across the golf course and spent the better part of a half-hour meandering around. Aaand at this point Christa and I went sprinting down the golf course. *facepalm* We were exuberant, what can I say? Yes, Christa went rolling down the hill. Do not ask why--it was a random moment. JAPANESE BEETLE!! So after Wildcat Springs we went home, bringing Zach along, for some much-needed showers, supper, and a movie. Said movie was 'V for Vendetta'...I had never seen it before, so it was quite an eye-opener. (I tried writing a review after watching it, but my thoughts upon the story were so confuzzled that another viewing is necessary before figuring out how exactly to review it.) As you can tell from our expressions (minus that of Christa--she has a seemingly limitless supply of energy and general glee) we were pretty brain-fried. The fact that it was almost midnight didn't help either. I'm not sure whose idea this was...but the camera timer was involved. Zach may be the master of photo bombing, but Christa is the mistress of funny faces. XD So yes. All in all a most satisfying day, yeilding a huge amount of pictures, sore muscles, and dead-tiredness. (The good kind of tired, that is.) Tune in next time for day 4 of the Texan Invasion...
Your hostess, The Fox Wednesday Mom and I drove to the airport. Our reason for doing so was to help the Texans infiltrate Illinois. I am pleased to say that it was a complete and total success. Preparing for impact... The leg pop was a nice effect. Is it bad that the first thing I said to Christa was 'Wow--you're short!'? While Christa and I practiced our cheerleading, poor Ashlee was battling her way through the crowd to join us. The Shlee has been spotted!! *glomp* Thus began the Texan invasion...tune in next time to see our continuing adventures! The gym is involved, along with Wildcat Springs, movies, friends, dancing, and WEIRD QUOTES!!
Your hostess, The Fox I am of the opinion that, while some of the best pictures due to lighting and set-up etc were caught onstage, some of the best pictures story-wise were caught backstage. Isn't that the way these things always go, though? The polished story is the front that everyone sees, but it's the little things that happen backstage and create that camaraderie to which only people who have been thrown together for a common purpose can relate. It's part of the magic of theater--the creating of friendships, the stories of people saying and doing silly things (as only people can do)...that's the part that I always remember the most. Behind the established story is one that thrives in and of itself, simply because there were people who cared enough to bring it to life. For example: this may look like Will chilling near the dressing rooms. But by being there I knew that he had just gotten his makeup applied and was hurrying up to the stage for a microphone check. By being there I knew that this was Bailey in the second try for a picture, in reality wearing a modified skirt (she's tiny) and waiting for the cue to go onstage. By being there I knew that this was the frenzy five minutes before the show started, with me sitting up next to the curtain and alternately snapping pictures and peering out at the crowd... ...that this was Zach, killing time before his entrance as the narrator and being blinded by my flash (sorry 'bout that, by the way)... That this was...uh...my foot, simply because I thought it looked kinda neat. Okay, that's not really relevant. But hey, I was getting bored sitting eight feet off the ground behind the curtain and getting my feet tickled by random passers-by. That people were exhausted the last day, and resting near the stage door in an attempt to relax before going back onstage... That this was Derek being...Derek... XD That during intermission some of the background folks came out onstage to blink in the dazzling stagelight and get some much-deserved attention... That someone's tap shoes had been slipped into a different dressing room and there was a bit of a flurry before they were found (and posed with)... That this was the seniors, together after the last performance before going their separate ways in life.
I hadn't intended for this to be such a reminiscing post. But...those who have not been involved in a creative endeavor simply do not realize the things that happen in the background to bring a bunch of random people together to make something magical happen. And that...that is the magic of theater. That's what makes it all worthwhile. And that's what makes us keep coming back. Your hostess, The Fox This next picture will move and thrill you. It will make you feel unspeakable emotions. You will soar with eagles and weep with beatific feeling for your fellow man. But most of all... You will be at one with the subject within. I call it... ..."Converse on a Trailer Hitch". Doesn't that just send chills coursing down your spine? No? Oh. Uh...you can just ignore all that 'weeping for your fellow man' and 'soaring with eagles' stuff then. But I think they're pretty snazzy. These were my younger brother's shoes, before he bestowed them upon my truck. I've been driving around for two days with them hanging off the hitch, so I guess they'll stay there until they disintegrate. Or something.
Your hostess, The Fox By that I mean that hopefully I'll be back to updating-every-day-or-so--sorry for the unprecedented hiatus there! And starting next Wednesday things will be back to sporadic updating--my two friends from Texas, Christa and Ashlee, are coming to visit! I've never actually met them except via Skyping, which is NOT the same as real-life...I'm so freakin' excited you have NO idea. And after they visit I'm flying back with them to Texas to stay for six days with their family. EEEEEEEEEE..... *ahem* Anyway. Pictures will be taken, doodles may be drawn...it's going to be fabulous. To tide you over until then, I have pictures from The Pajama Game. Enjoy! This is our narrator/time-study-man, Zach. Normally his hair is very fluffy and 'fro-like, but for the part they were going for the slicked-back look.
Yes, I'm going to put up my items that I'm trying to sell on Etsy, because I'm on a selling high (three items in a week?? O.o) and I figure it can't hurt to put 'em out there. XD Item #1: Gypsy Rag Scarf, Pretty in Pink I crochet these scarves by hand, and this is the last one in my pre-made supply. Most scarves are not this...uh....pink. XD If you like the idea but not the colors I have a large supply of yarn to go towards making another. More are on the way and will be listed hopefully within a week. Item #2: Comfrey Salve I had a post several weeks ago on how to make this, and I still have the salve from that post on hand. So I decided to sell it. :D Item #3: Lip Balms Lemon Chocolate and Shea Butter I have a TON of these little suckers (8 of the shea, 7 each of the chocolate and lemon)...and I have ingredients to make more, yay. XD Item #4: Denim Fingerless Gloves I made these the other day, and just for kicks walked around wearing them to gauge people's reactions. Out of the 10-12 people who said it was cool (they came to me, I didn't have to ask) maybe 2 said they looked kinda silly. *shrug* I dunno. All I know is that I've got something around 10 pairs of old jeans that I'm making in a quilt (cutting out the blocks, anyway) and the leftover denim is going into making more gloves. I have an idea where I can pretty the basic design up with ribbon, scraps of leather, and buttons...but that's still in the experimental stages. Items #5-11: Photographs
I HAVE been trying to sell my artwork, so I pulled some of the pictures that I liked best and posted them on Etsy. There's a TON of people who do the same on that website but...well, it's worth a shot, right? Thanks for putting up with my shameless plugging, folks...between the play and photography jobs these next few days look to be busy ones. Oh yes, and trying to ride the horses every morning (had to miss this morning because I slept in, gosh-darnit) and experimenting with gloves and sewing quilt blocks together and *falls over* Your in-the-throes-of-inspiration hostess, The Fox |
