Mood: *is in pain*
So things have happened!! That is...well, sort of...ah heck, I'll just get started.
So I finished my NaNo! *waits for applause* Thank you, thank you, no no, please, sit down, thank you... XD 50,656 words to be exact. I wish that my story could have been a lot more interesting...at this point it's just a bunch of unrelated anecdotes all strung together with no real purpose other than to have the characters bounce off of each other mentally. And my main characters have had the growth of a rock. *headdesk* Then last night, I sat down to write -- I had 1800 words to go, and I was really dreading writing because I had nothing to write about. But, come hell or high water I WAS going to cross that finish line, even if it meant writing out song lyrics or something equally cheat-tastic and dasterdly.
So. Writing. Sat down, started writing...and darn my characters if they didn't start being a ton of fun!! My male main character (MMC) suddenly decided that he could be a lot of fun and they all had a random race over who could get their chores done and had a snowball fight and...and... *sobs* Why couldn't they have done that, say, two weeks ago? Now they want to be played with right when I was ready to put them away! *headdesk* I suppose that I could take this as a 'oh, this could be a really big story, I ought to keep them around', but...I'm ready to leave it alone for a while. Maybe I'll come back and play with them sometime in the future, but not now. I'm going to relish my freedom from daily typing and start drawing again. (Although maybe 500 words a day isn't too much to ask for)
Anyway! On to other things! I really should have said 'Happy Thanksgiving' at the beginning of this, but since I didn't I'll put it down here.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful day...we went to a church and served dinners. First time we've ever done that, actually. It was kind of fun. Normally we'd go to my grandparent's house (they live about two blocks away), but that's always slightly awkward because we're together with family that we only see twice a year and when relatives are like strangers there's that feeling that you can't say anything untoward, speak your mind, or act like yourself for fear of offending someone. Ya know? Sigh. (Not to mention said grandparents are in their 90s and really can't do the whole dinner thing anymore) So the serving-dinner-thing was quite a change. We were home from that by 1, spent a couple of hours taking naps and essentially being lazy, and then we went to my aunt's house for dinner. So, all in all it was a satisfactory day. The only thing I miss was that we didn't fix a turkey, and I have been craving meat all day. *headdesk* But Mom to the rescue--she's making fried turkey tonight, and I'm drooling just thinking about it!
Today my brothers and I went over to my grandparent's house to bring down the Christmas decorations--
Wait. Christmas decorations? NOOO!! It's too early for that! It's not even December yet--YOU CAN'T MAKE MEEE!!! *is restrained and hauled away*
*A few minutes later*
Ahem. I apologize for that outburst. It was childish, and untoward. Just don't mention the 'D' word and I'll be fine. But as I was saying, while we were at my grandparent's house getting down the dec--uh, the 'D' things--Grammie gave us two boxes full of old books to weed through. Man, are THOSE fun!! I am a self-proclaimed old-book-geek---I don't usually like to read them (unless they're classics), but the covers and that smell and the feel of the old paper...mmm. Yeah. I'm a textures person, can you tell? XD So anyway, we brought these boxes home and have found quite a few treasures.
There's an original 1936 printing of 'Gone with the Wind' (I despise that book, but that's beside the point), a collection of about 10 books that are collections of famous speeches from oraters, some poetry, a book called 'The Curse of Alcohol' (that was probably propoganda for the Temperence League at the turn of the 20th century--it's hilarious in its seriousness and, I kid you not, is about 400 pages long. With small print. *shudders*), several other random books including a leatherbound copy of Hamlet and 'The Song of Hiawatha', and then there's a book that I grabbed for myself. I can't remember the author off-hand, but the book is called 'Stranded in the Horse Latitudes', seems to have been written in the 40s, and is HILARIOUS. I've been reading selections of it out loud, and whoever wrote it was an absolute scream. Think PG Wodehouse (without the romance) mixed with Patrick McManus (without the outdoors references)...okay, bad analogy. Once I find the book again I'm going to put bits of it up here, just so you can see what it's like.
Sigh. My neck is absolutely KILLING me...I have no idea what I did to it, but I can barely turn my head to the left at all without a random muscle going "OW OW OW" and forcing me to keep my head forward. A visit to the chiropractor is in order, methinks...
So, to recap: Happy Thanksgiving, and whoever went out on this Black Friday I pity you and the crowds you had to fight. *shakes head* Have a lovely day, peoples!
