Oy...well, I fell off of Violet again today. I very stupidly thought that I could handle her and in mid-mount she moved forward; I grabbed the reins and she flipped me off right over her shoulder. I landed on my head again (thank God for helmets), but even with that precaution I got a mild concussion and everything was very confusing and dream-like for about twenty minutes. The first five minutes or so after picking myself up off the ground I couldn't see out of my right eye--everything had a 'dissolved' look on the right side. I don't seem to have been knocked out, because I remember getting up and Violet had only taken a couple of steps. No one had been outside (another stupid point on my part), but I remember catching Violet, tying her up, and saying 'I got to get in the house' because I was afraid of passing out. I got inside (don't remember how), and Mom and Dad took me to the emergency room.
The first twenty minutes at the hospital I was very confused and rambling--I couldn't even remember for a while whether I had fallen off of Violet or Colletta--but after a little while of babbling and trying to figure out what had happened things started coming back to me. They did a CAT scan, put a neck brace on for precaution, and sent me home within an hour. By that point I was lucid and could remember what had happened with some clarity. The whole time I was very upset and in tears, but now I'm better--a mild headache is all, and that is mostly induced by frustration and stress.
This has been quite an eye-opener--being the second time I've fallen off of Violet in a month I realize that I cannot do this myself. I am going to bring in an expert (a friend who is an amazing horse trainer) and get him to help me, because I cannot keep falling off like this. I'm going to continue solidifying her groundwork, but as far as riding goes--no more until I get someone with experience to help me.
